Lighting

Lighting

A lighting kit built for flattering interviews indoors and reliable light outdoors, in any weather.

We love lighting. Painting with light is where a frame comes alive, and it is at the heart of how we work. Sam spent years as a network lighting cameraman, and every setup starts with the same question: what will make this person, this room or this location look its best?

The kit below covers most jobs straight off the shelf. When a shoot calls for something different, a bigger source, a specific look or a brand-matched colour, we source the right lights for it. You tell us the look; we bring the light.

Which light for which job

  • Sit-down interviews and sets: PavoSlims, with PavoTubes for background and colour
  • Shaping, rim and hair light: Forza 60B II with fresnel
  • Outdoors, live shots and bad weather: Litepanels Astra IP Halfs and Bricks

Interviews and sets

Nanlite PavoSlim 120B (x2)

Our main interview lights. Large, very thin LED panels that give a soft, even, flattering light, the classic magazine-style interview look. Because they are so slim they fit in small offices, hotel rooms and homes where bigger lights will not. The colour shifts from warm to cool to match the room.

  • Great for: sit-down interviews, sets, a soft key light that flatters faces
  • Worth knowing: not built for full outdoor lighting or rain, which is where the Astra panels take over

Nanlite PavoTube II (x4)

Slim LED tubes with built-in batteries, in two sizes. They add the details that make a frame look finished: a back light to separate the subject from the background, a touch of colour on a plain wall, or a small light hidden behind furniture. The smaller tubes can produce any colour, useful for matching a brand.

  • Great for: back light, background colour, quick setups with no cables
  • Worth knowing: they are accent lights, not a main light for a face

Shaping and control

Nanlite Forza 60B II (x2)

Compact spotlights that give a focused beam we can aim and shape, each with a fresnel lens. A rim of light on hair and shoulders, a pool of light on the background, or a small soft main light through a softbox.

  • Great for: hair and rim light, shaping the background, travel
  • Worth knowing: they are small lights, so a large space needs more fixtures

Outdoors and bad weather

Litepanels Astra IP Half (x2)

Our all-weather panels. Astra lights are a standard on network news crews around the world, and this version is built to keep working in rain. Bright enough to lift a face against a daylight background, and they run from mains or batteries.

  • Great for: live shots, outdoor interviews, rain, storms and humidity
  • Worth knowing: heavier to travel with, and not as soft as the PavoSlims for indoor interviews

Litepanels Brick (x2)

Small, rugged, weatherproof LED lights that run from an attached battery, so they can be carried and placed anywhere without a power cable. They go where a bigger panel will not fit and keep working when conditions turn.

  • Great for: a quick fill or accent light outdoors, run-and-gun news, tight spots, bad weather
  • Worth knowing: small output, so they support the main lights rather than replace them

Grip

Lightweight stands, C-stands, flags, scrims and diffusion to place and shape every light.
